NewsFeed is a platform which the Province communication agents can connect through their institutional e-mail boxes, in order to publish news about their local works on the national website www.boletinsalesiano.cl.
Once the text has been uploaded, along with photos and videos, the platform processes it with Gemini, Google's Artificial Intelligence service, to offer the communicator a text adapted to editorial criteria that encourage reading in digital settings.
“We took some time to train Artificial Intelligence so that it could incorporate and correctly apply editorial principles. After several repetitions, we arrived at a result that we considered optimal," the Delegate for Social Communications explains.
After reviewing the proposal, the communicator has the option to send the original text or the one modified by artificial intelligence. Sending will generate a notification message in the Google chat that Salesian communicators use internally.
However, the news is still pending moderation-publication by the members of the communication team at the central level of the Province.
"We have a lot of news about Salesian life in the country and the development of our educative and pastoral project, and this tool will help us manage them in a more agile way," says Vicente Fritz.
So now this space guarantees greater autonomy to communicators of local works and improves the system of sending and receiving information with the central level, which previously depended exclusively on email, a channel that will become obsolete for these purposes.
Why call it NewsFeed?
”We wanted to give an identity to this tool to position it as a collaborative workspace for communicators. This is why we have called it ‘NewsFeed’, understood as a place of permanent production of news, and a work carried out by making the best use of technology."
Another goal of the communication team, according to Vicente Fritz, is that this tool will encourage communicators in parishes, shrines and foundations of the Province to join this news production space.
NewsFeed was officially launched on 17 July at noon (UTC-4) in a virtual meeting attended by communicators of the country's Salesian works, where the last doubts were resolved and they learned how to use the platform.
The service was developed by the Technology sector of the Communication Area of the CIL Province, with the advice of CodeChile, through its project manager, Alejandro Gallegos.
