The young Guilherme will arrive at the Games on the strength of the new record he beat in the 100 metres freestyle in March this year: a record that had been unbeaten since 2008 and that the Salesian past pupil ‘stole’ from Olympic champion Cesar Cielo. The new best time, 40.55 to be precise, was obtained by the young man in the competition organised by the National Association of Collegiate Athletics, the most important university championship in the United States.
And it doesn’t end there. Already the holder of the title in the 2023 Pan American Games for the 100 metres freestyle, Guilherme also took home two bronze medals from the prestigious Italian "Settecolli" tournament held in Rome in June.
In recent days, the swimmer spoke at the opening of the 37th Edition of the "Nordestão Salesiano", the largest sporting event of the Salesian Schools Network of Brazil (RSB-Schools). Guilherme told the young athletes present about his experience as a participant in the various editions of the event, and gave them a message of enthusiasm and strength for young people.
"I spent most of my life at the Salesian School " the athlete explained. "I completed my secondary education here, took part in many editions of the ‘Nordestão‘ which, without a doubt, is one of the best experiences I have ever had in sport [...]. If you feel the dream of becoming a professional athlete and if you cultivate the dream of one day going to the Olympic Games, it's all a matter of time and dedication, "Guilherme concluded.
