The aim of this reflection is to kindle the life of the Salesians of Don Bosco with a passion for Jesus, rediscovering their affection for the Lord, and to bring the theme back into the life of personal prayer, into the mission, into the life of the educative and pastorall community. The opportunity is to find a place for study and discussion that encourages discernment.
This first meeting was led by Fr Francesco Marcoccio, rector of the community at Headquarters The Rector Major, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, his Vicar, Fr Stefano Martoglio, and the Moderator of GC29 and Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, Fr Alphonse Owoudou, also spoke.
As speakers, Salesians Br. Paolo Zini, professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) in Rome, and Fr Andrea Bozzolo, Rector Magnificus of the same university, offered their reflections.
Br Zini commented on some features of contemporary culture in relation to the spiritual life. In particular, he highlighted the theme of sacrifice compared to the current youth reality.
Fr Bozzolo presented some theological ideas for a renewed spirituality of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
After each talk all the participants had the opportunity to intervene to contribute to the reflection.
It is worth noting that in his address the Rector Major stressed the importance of the spiritual life for consecrated Salesian, referring to his previous letter "Where the Lord leads us. “He said to me: 'My grace is sufficient for you; for power is made perfect in weakness'” (2 Cor 12:9), already published in the Acts of the General Council No. 440 (2023).
The next appointment is scheduled exactly five months later, on 15 November 2024, in the same way.
