Chile - Working for the development of young people: "Don Bosco Solidarity Circuit"

09 November 2016

(ANS - Linares) - Linares is a province of Chile located in the Seventh Region of Maule. It is a predominantly agricultural area. The city of Linares, the provincial capital, has high rates of poverty, which is evident from the poor quality of life of some vulnerable families. At Linares the Salesians run the Don Bosco Salesian Agricultural School which is taking part this year in the "Don Bosco Solidarity Circuit”.

The "Plaza Argentina" Association, with the support of the Missionary Museum of Colle Don Bosco, began the project of professional training in the agricultural sector for teachers and young people of the Salesian Schools throughout the world, with the help of producers of Monferrato, as part of the "Don Bosco Solidarity Circuit".

This project is now starting at the Salesian Agricultural School of Linares, which has an important pig breeding unit with a professional course for the production of Piedmontese type sausages, entrusted to the professional skills of Mr Marco Violi and his wife Olivana.

The presence of Salesian agricultural schools throughout the world has prompted collaboration between them and the producers in Monferrato, the land of Don Bosco, with its values and its resources.

The project aims to combine the resources of the various centres around the world in the belief that it may offer a better opportunity for young people to enter the labour world, as Don Bosco wanted. For young people and teachers from Salesian schools, then, the collaborative proposal is an opportunity to improve their skills and gain an experience that helps them to get to know Don Bosco's roots in his country, among his own people.

The collaborative proposal is open to other Salesian schools and companies in the world and to other entrepreneurs of Monferrato and Piedmont.
