The Salesian University (UDB) is an institution of reference in the field of higher education in the country and the entire Central American region, known for its commitment to specialised professional training, academic and technological innovation, knowledge transfer, social impact initiatives and the promotion of its Salesian values.
The 40th anniversary achievement was celebrated with a special event on the evening of Thursday, 7 March, which brought together guests from the university community, the Salesian community of the country and the region, important entrepreneurs, benefactors, Salvadoran university authorities, diplomatic leaders, partners and friends of this institution. The evening was an opportunity to reflect on the results of the last forty years and to give recognition to those who have contributed to the growth and success of the UDB in all this time.
During the ceremony, the historical events that have marked the University since its foundation in 1984 to the present day were highlighted. The institution's commitment to training professionals with the skills required by the country and the region was underlined, as well as a solid education in the principles and values that characterise Salesian educational institutions.
In addition, the following day, Friday 8 March, the exact day of the anniversary, at the Salesian parish dedicated to Mary Help of Christians and Fr Rua in San Salvador, a solemn thanksgiving Mass was held, presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador, Archbishop Luigi Cona.
The Universidad Don Bosco was founded on 8 March 1984 by a mixed group of Salesians and visionary entrepreneurs, inspired by the charism of St John Bosco: it thus became the first Salesian Institution of Higher Education in El Salvador and Central America.
According to 2023 data, a total of more than 19,300 students have graduated from the university, which currently has more than 11,700 students enrolled in its 3 campuses and at different levels of higher education.
The UDB now offers its students a broad educational offer which consists of 45 degree courses, twelve masters and three doctorates through its five faculties: Engineering, Humanities, Economics, Rehabilitation Sciences and Aeronautics, in addition to the Department of Distance Education.
