Timor Leste – “Become part of the Salesian Family”, say Fr Joseph Phuoc to the students at Fuiloro Fuiloro

(ANS – Fuiloro Fuiloro) – Fr. Joseph Phuoc, the Regional of East Asia Oceania continued his Extraordinary Visitation, paying visit to the Salesian community of Don Bosco Fuiloro, Timor-Leste, for three days from 5th to 7th March. During the visit, Fr. Joseph met with various entities connected with the Salesian works in Fuiloro, including the ADMA, Agricultural Students, Primary and Junior High School students, teachers, lay collaborators, and lay people.

Upon his arrival, Fr. Joseph was welcomed with traditional dance and song presented by the ADMA group of Fuiloro. He then attended a reception ceremony at the gymnasium, where he saw improvements and the lively Salesian world in Fuiloro. Later the Rector of the Community, Fr. José de Sá, accompanied Fr. Joseph to take a tour of the huge campus of Don Bosco Fuiloro, which included a poultry farm, piggery, cowshed, and fishpond.

Fr. Joseph had a fraternal talk with each of the Salesian Confreres and the collaborators. The next day a solemn mass was organized at the Don Bosco Gymnasium, and the mass was presided over by the Rector. In the homily, the Regional, Fr Joseph shared his insights, specially expressing gratitude to the missionaries who brought the Salesian mission to the island and provided education and evangelization for a better future.

Fr. Joseph also held meetings with the Salesian family and lay collaborators, beginning with the ADMA group, then the Past Puils, Young people and Catechists sharing with them his personal experiences and also reflected on the history of Vietnam and Timor-Leste. These meetings were a great joy and opportunity for Fr. Joseph to share his personal experiences and insights with the Salesian community.

He asked a number of questions to them on aspects of their Faith, Church, and their belonging to the Salesian family. He affirmed that the Salesian Family founded by Don Bosco was especially for those poorest and in need. He highlighted on the importance of education and the need to helping young people to secure a good future. He expressed his wish that soon Fuiloro would have a university that could serve more students and help them find jobs after studies. He exhorted the young people to become part of the Salesian family.

Fr. Joseph concluded his visit by celebrating a mass with the Salesian Sisters. Later, he convened a meeting with the House council and concluded his visit by expressing appreciation for the life, testimonies, efforts, and sacrifices that the Salesian Community manifested in carrying forward various services to the young people and the Salesian family.
