During the meetings, several common themes emerged from the discussions. One prevalent topic is the need for effective accompaniment of both volunteers and receiving communities. Participants emphasized the importance of preparing volunteers for their experiences, providing training and support, and ensuring a smooth transition after the volunteer period.

Another key theme centered around the integration of faith and community in the volunteer experience. Participants highlighted the significance of shared life with the Salesians, training in Salesian spirituality, and the connection between the volunteer service and the experience of faith.

Additionally, the meeting focused on the challenges and opportunities of working with diverse groups of volunteers. This included addressing the needs of volunteers from different age groups, cultures, and religious backgrounds. The participants stressed the importance of interculturality, partnership between lay and religious, and the promotion of local volunteering.

Furthermore, sustainability and long-term impact were key concerns raised during the meetings. Participants discussed the need for clear training programs, continuous support, and the establishment of networks to strengthen volunteerism globally. They also emphasized the significance of addressing current world challenges, such as climate change, and engaging young people in meaningful volunteer activities.

The meetings concluded with a review of logistics for the upcoming March 2024 SMV meeting. The participants expressed their expectations for the meeting, which included commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Salesian Missions, focusing on working with receiving communities, and addressing the theme of accompaniment for ex-volunteers.

The Salesian Missionary Volunteer Meetings provided an invaluable platform for volunteer coordinators to exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate on future initiatives. By addressing common themes and challenges in our meeting in March, we will hopefully enhance the quality and effectiveness of volunteer programs within the Salesian Congregation.
