Brazil – The first ten years of Edebê Brasil Salesian Publishers

24 November 2023

(ANS – Brasilia) – On 21 November, the Edebê Brasil  Salesian publishing house celebrated its tenth anniversary. A decade ago the publishing house took the first steps on a publishing path committed to supporting quality education and the integral training of children, adolescents and young adults, through its materials and educational solutions.

Edebê arrived in Brazil in 2013, thanks to a collaboration between the Salesian Network of Brazil (RSB) and "Sofrasa" (Grupo Editorial Edebé Barcelona - Spain). Currently, Edebê Brasil deals with the production of textbooks, workbooks, literature for children, teenagers and Salesians, as well as teaching materials and digital technologies for the education sector.

In these ten years, the publishing house has greatly expanded its activities, overcoming the boundaries initially established. In addition to meeting the requirements of the RSB, its teaching materials now reach educators, students and learning enthusiasts throughout Brazil.

With regard to educational materials, Edebê Brasil aims to create educational products and services that collaborate in the integral development of children, adolescents and young adults in the different dimensions of the person (cognitive, affective, psychomotor and behavioural).

In addition, by dealing with children's education, the publishing house aims to promote the all-round development of children, stimulating their physical, emotional, social and cognitive abilities. At this stage, children are encouraged through play activities, games, songs and stories. Specifically, in this area, the publishing house takes care of two distinct categories: one aimed at children up to 2 years old, with engaging resources and materials adapted to the child's stage of development, and one designed for children from 3 to 5 years old, which aims at enhancing the culture of childhood, remembering that children are producers of culture and not just consumers or recipients.

Edebê Brasil also offers materials for primary school children, remembering that, especially in the early years of this educational cycle, they play an important role in building the educational foundations of students. They provide the basis for continuous development in the later stages of education, contributing to the formation of individuals who are critical, creative and able to face the challenges of today's world. The final years of primary schools, on the other hand, aim to deepen the knowledge acquired in the early years and prepare students for secondary school. In this phase, therefore, the materials offered by the publishing house focus on the development of cognitive skills, on the ability to analyse, argue, solve problems and think critically. For primary school children, the series offered are "Nautas", for the first years, and "Rotas" for the final years.

The objective of secondary education is instead to provide a more in-depth education, preparing students to access higher education, the labour market or other forms of education, such as technical and vocational training. In this regard "Edebê Brasil" proposes the "Passport" collection, developed with the aim of promoting youth involvement and the integral formation of young people.

Edebê Brasil is part of the Edebé publishing group, founded in Barcelona (Spain) in 1888 and active in Spain and Latin America. It is found throughout Brazil and more than 70,000 students rely on the educational materials and digital resources that the publishing house constantly produces. A pioneer in the creation of multimedia teaching materials, the publishing group offers teaching and learning processes adapted to new digital media. It also offers training services for teachers and management tools for the academic community.
