05 October 2016

(ANS - Concepción) - Research shows that teenagers who feel important in a group of friends are more likely to have better family relationships, higher satisfaction in school and greater assertiveness. Don Bosco started the Società dell'Allegria (Joy Club), a group of young people from the streets to make them good Christians. All through Salesian history societies, associations and groups have always been present as meeting places where young people can grow and develop. In the parish of Mary Help of Christians in Concepcion, Paraguay, the National Camp of the Friends of Dominic Savio and the Friends of Laura Vicuña ended on Sunday 25 September.

These two youth groups follow in the footsteps of two figures of Salesian youth holiness: Dominic Savio and Laura Vicuna. Their holiness has become a model for other boys and girls. Dominic Savio "is a fruit of the grace of the Holy Spirit and Salesian education. He embodies the fullness of humanity "; Laura Vicuña "was an example of Salesian youth spirituality in her short span of life that did not reach the age of 13. Hers was a life marked by suffering transformed by love."

The Friends of Dominic Savio and the Friends of Laura Vicuña renewed their commitment to follow the path of youthful holiness in their educational environment. The meeting had the theme: "Young Salesians engaged in Mercy". They followed the programme of reflection of the third Vocations Camp (CAMREVOC), which was attended by members of the two associations from all over the country.

They shared moments of prayer and reflection and also had the opportunity to explore the historical sites of the city of Concepción.

In the Eucharist celebrated at the end of the national camp, the new leaders made their promises, taking on the task of transmitting the charism of the movement to the new members of this great family, inspired by the values of Dominic Savio and Laura Vicuña.
