Italy – Rome’s Salesian Pontifical University's network of collaborations expands

05 July 2022

(ANS - Rome) - The international inter-university cooperation initiative successfully carried out by the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome continues and is enriched by a new important formation agreement. On June 30, UPS signed a framework agreement with the "Libera Università Maria SS. Assunta" of Rome (LUMSA), geared toward sharing research projects, and educational paths and fostering student mobility.

For the act of signing, the Magnificent Rector, Fr Andrea Bozzolo, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Antonio Dellagiulia, the Secretary-General, Fr Jaroslaw Rochowiak, and Prof. Francesca Romana Busnelli, joyfully welcomed the Magnificent Rector of LUMSA, Dr. Francesco Bonini, accompanied by Dr. Bruna Marro, Head of the Institute's Secretariats. The meeting was enriched by a visit of the guests to the UPS campus, with a special focus on the "Don Bosco" Library, and ended with a convivial moment in which they continued to discuss curricular activities to be developed together.

It should also be mentioned that just over a month before the signing of this agreement, last May 18, UPS had signed another framework agreement with the European University of Rome (EBU) to develop collaborative activities in areas of common interest, for the implementation of shared projects and initiatives. It was, also in that case, an important memorandum of understanding, as it sanctioned broad cooperation on the level of educational activities, which - concretely - will translate into the possibility, for example, for students of the two universities to attend individual teaching courses activated at UPS or EBU, to take the related exams and obtain mutual recognition of educational credits if consistent, of course, with the educational path in place.

Moreover, the university systems involved in these agreements - UPS, LUMSA, and EBU - are all fully part, following the Bologna Process, of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), so the commitment made is also moved by the desire to contribute to the development of relations between the Italian university network, with state and non-state universities, and the ecclesiastical university network, with the Pontifical Universities.

Updates on the development of these important understandings reached are expected in the coming months.
