There is no Salesian home, in the more than 130 countries of the 5 continents where the Sons of Don Bosco are present, where music and song are not an integral part of the educational project. And so, in the year in which the 66th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, one of the world’s most popular music competitions, is being celebrated in the city of Don Bosco, Beatrice Periolo and Giulio Rigazio, final year students at the Salesian high school Valsalice, had an idea: "why not promote a song contest in the schools of Turin on the eve of the international festival to make the voices of young talents from our city heard?"
Hence "ToVision 2022", the first song festival of Turin high schools: the show, live, will be staged at the Teatro Grande di Valdocco on May 7 at 9 p.m. It is inspired by "Tù sì que Valsales 2022 – a talent show for Don Bosco", that went live on YouTube on the Valsalice channel last February 26, when 20 students performed on the stage of the Valsalice Theatre, some in person, others on video, as finalists after a selection of 40 boys and girls enrolled in the competition.
"ToVision22 is a beautiful initiative started by our Institute," explains Marco Montersino, professor-musician of Literature at the Salesian High School. "We said that it would be nice to offer all other schools the opportunity to participate in a talent show like the one we organize every year in Valsalice. And so Giulio, director and artistic director, and Beatrice, production director of 'ToVision' have set up a team of students, the association 'GEN Z NOW' and together with 'ValsOnAir', the web radio of our high school, we started this adventure that has had a number of participants joining beyond our expectations: 38 schools involved, 400 competitors who have done the auditions within the individual schools and thousands of social contacts."
On the evening of Saturday, April 9, the selection of the young talents who will participate in "ToVision" was held in Valsalice on the stage of Valdocco, Turin's second-largest theater in terms of capacity, with 820 seats. The vote of the jury, which counted for 40%, and the social networks, for the remaining 60%, have chosen 14 finalists who will perform on May 7, three days before Eurovision.
ToVision is sponsored by, among others, Xiaomi, the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, NovaCoop, record label M&MD& G Music, which will reward the first place winner with the production and distribution of two singles, and music producer Daniele Affubine, who will produce a song for the second most voted artist.
The final ranking will be decided by a technical jury of singers and musicians and by the public vote through social networks.
