It was precisely the young people who gave him, from the moment he entered the house, the traditional clothes and symbols of the authorities, including the region’s typical songs and dances.
After these introductory gestures, it was the turn of the Provincial of the "Our Lady of Africa" Vice-Province of Tropical Equatorial Africa (ATE), Fr Roland Mintsa, to convey to him the joy of the entire Vice-Province in having him close to them in person: "Welcome here on Cameroonian land!" he exclaimed.
Subsequently, the youngsters of the Youth Center of Mimboman, district of Yaoundé, paid homage to the Rector Major with Mbolé, an urban rhythm of Cameroonian origin today very present in the national music scene, and Fr Á.F. Artime witnessed that expression of joy and art with real interest, showing all his satisfaction with the enthusiasm and quality of the welcome he received.
At the end of this phase with the usual picture-taking, in the middle of the afternoon, the Rector Major held a meeting with the confreres of the communities of the Provincial House and of Mimboman. It was an occasion to remind them to live the Salesian charism with dedication, without overly occupying themselves, for example, with the work the laity can ensure and which are not, however, the purpose of the Salesian mission.
"We must promote fraternal life and the salvation of young people," the Rector Major stressed forcefully.
The evening continued with the prayer of Vespers, which ended with the "goodnight" of the Rector Major. In his speech, Fr Á.F. Artime invited the Salesians to pray for peace in Ukraine. He praised the work done by the Salesian presences that welcome refugees and showed that if Don Bosco were there today he would do the same thing. At the same time, his admiration was also directed to the countries bordering Ukraine which offer hospitality to these brothers and sisters who seek refuge.
