The Programme is designed to provide intense treatment to reintegrate children in conflict with the law after they have had community experience or spent a rehabilitation period in the Regional Rehabilitation Centre for Youth, in the Second Chance programme in Cebu City, or in the Scout movement. The purpose of the Magone Home Aftercare Program is to prepare children in conflict with the law for an independent life and to facilitate their gradual reintegration into society as productive individuals.
At present the Magone Home Aftercare Program is headed by a Director and an Assistant Director. The staff includes two social workers, two psychologists, two teachers and two house-parents. Together they are called 'Magone Help Team.' Every year the team serves a maximum of twenty young people living in the centre and twenty young people based in the community. From the time the Magone Home Aftercare Program started in 2010, until now, in July 2016, the programme has helped 129 young people whose offences range from murder to rape, theft and robbery. It has a total of 73 young people already reintegrated, including 37 (51%) profitably employed. Forty-five (62%) are with their families, while 24 (33%) are living independently.
The government social welfare department has declared the work a model of best practice of re-integration that can be replicated by private institutions, organizations and government agencies involved in working with children in conflict with the law. At the end of this pilot programme, implementation, the Magone Home Aftercare Program marks a stronger and deeper commitment of the Salesians to increase their work for the reintegration of children in conflict with the law to offer them a second chance.
