The members of the Assembly approved, by vote, the documents "Policies 2022-2026", "Common Program 6", and "Guidelines for pastoral care in the IUS" which were discussed and reflected during the week. The documents contain lines of action, approaches, policies and orientations, based on the reality of the institutions and on the objectives issued by the Rector Major at the end of the 28th General Chapter and in synchrony with the Salesian Youth Ministry Department.
After the approval of the documents, the new continental coordinators were also announced. Professor Alessio Rocchi of the Turin Rebaudengo University Salesian Institute (IUSTO) was elected as the new coordinator of Europe; the Coordinator of America shall be Br. Mario Olmos, SDB, Rector of the Don Bosco University of El Salvador; the interim coordinator of Africa (until September) will be Fr Dieudonne Otekpo of the "Institut Supérieur Don Bosco" (ISDB), of Togo; Fr Thaddeus Singarayan continues as Coordinator of South Asia, and the new Coordinator of East Asia-Oceania will be Fr Joel Camaya, of the "Don Bosco College" of Canlubang, of The Philippines.
The dates for the next continental meetings have been set as follows: the continental meeting of Europe takes place in Prague, Czech Republic, at the "Jabok" institute, in the third week of May 2023. The continental meeting of America will be at Vitória, Brazil, at the “Unisales” University from 19 to 22 September 2022, followed by the course on IUS directives in Campo Grande, Brazil, at the UCDB University, from 24 to 30 of the same month. The continental meeting of East Asia and Oceania will take place in Manila, Philippines, on 3 or 4 June 2023, on a date yet to be confirmed. The South Asian continental meeting will take place in the third week of November 2022, also followed by the course on IUS directives. The continental meeting of Africa will take place in Maputo, Mozambique, at the "Dom Bosco" Higher Institute (ISDB) from 24 to 26 October 2022.
Finally, all the participants took part in the concluding Eucharist which was celebrated by Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major.
The VIII Assembly can be said to be a message of hope and encouragement to continue the Salesian mission in higher education, in the midst of difficulties, today's calls and the challenges of today's culture.
