Italy – Days of Spirituality of the Salesian Family: the expectations of the protagonists

13 January 2022

(ANS - Turin) - Dreams, hopes, expectations, desire for sharing, for deep communion, for recharging oneself by drawing on one's own charismatic roots; and, again, the desire to deepen one's knowledge of the figure of St. Francis de Sales and his maxims for the spiritual life, to listen to the Rector Major's commentary on the Strenna 2022 and his indications for the new year; and, finally, to treasure all this in order to take it home and share it with one's friends and fellow missionaries. At Valdocco, in the Salesian Mother House, where today, January 13, 2022, the 40th Days of Spirituality of the Salesian Family (GSFS) will open, we can now breathe all this.

Gustavo Pérez Reina is a 48-year-old Salesian Cooperator from Spain, participating in the SDSF for the first time. “I look forward to the start with great hopes and expectations. First, for the possibility to touch the real dimension of the Salesian Family in the world, despite the pandemic situation. Then, for the possibility of attending the presentation of the Strenna in this important year dedicated to St. Francis de Sales, to know all that we are invited to live as Salesian Family. And finally, logically, for the responsibility I feel I have to bring home to the other Salesian Cooperators that same hope, formation and joy I already feel here.”

“I have many and good feelings in view of this Day. Why? Because talking about St. Francis de Sales means talking about our roots: it means going to the source,” adds Pina. “The whole Salesian Family needs continuous renewal, because we all need to move forward. That's why going to draw from our source, in my opinion, is something that can serve all groups.”

For his part, Thulio Fonseca, from Canção Nova, expresses a contagious enthusiasm: “Being here in Turin, in Valdocco, for this beautiful meeting constituted by the Days of Spirituality of the Salesian Family, is already a great joy! I expect to be able to spend some days getting to know each other and the other groups, to live an authentic experience of communion. And, of course, also to know and deepen this beautiful teaching of St. Francis de Sales, ‘Do all through love, nothing through constraint’: an invitation that both as Salesian Family and as a group of Canção Nova pushes us to go out to meet others and evangelize.”

“We are very grateful and happy to be able to participate in these days,” concludes Graciela, of the Contemplative Fraternity of Mary of Nazareth. “We expect to be able to experience the great communion of the Salesian Family and the goodness and charity of Christ witnessed by St. Francis de Sales and Don Bosco; and also to share, each group of the Salesian Family, what we are deep down, in order to enrich each other.”
