Santiago, Chile - December 2024 - Bishop Alberto Lorenzelli, SDB, Vicar General and Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago, presided over the priestly ordinations of Salesians Fabián Tabilo and Vu Duc Duy, and the ordination to the diaconate of Salesian Miguel Seminario on 14 December, in the Church of Mary Help of Christians in Lo Cañas. The Provincial of the Salesians in Chile, Fr Nelson Moreno, the Provincial of the Salesians in Peru, Fr Juan Pablo Alcas and Salesians from various religious communities concelebrated.
Belo Horizonte, Brazil - December 2024 - In 2000, the Salesian St John Bosco Province of Belo Horizonte (BBH), created a free training project on baking. Aimed at young people and adults in socially vulnerable situations, the Salesian Bakery Social Project aims to create a new source of income and opportunities for personal and community transformation. In its 24 years of existence, the project has created more than 10,000 artisan bakeries and trained more than 100,000 people. At the end of November, a meeting was held in Brasilia to expand the project to three other Salesian presences in the cities of Belo Horizonte and Pará de Minas, in the state of Minas Gerais, and in Palmas, in the state of Tocatins. On 3 December, a formation meeting was held with the formators in these cities on the historical context of bread-making and essential hygiene practices. It also included collaborative practice in the production of various types of bread. The Salesian Unit of the Federal District, CESAM-DF, has been a partner in the project since August.
Apia, Samoa - December 2024 - On 13 December, the Salesian Family in Samoa gathered for a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Peter Hoang, Superior of the Australia-Pacific (AUL) Province, which marked a significant day of renewal for the Salesian mission in the Pacific. The Mass included the installation of Fr Taisali Leuluai as the new Pacific Delegate for the AUL-Pacific Province, and Fr Bernie Graham as the new Rector of the Alafua Community. After the Eucharist, the Provincial Council and the Salesians of Samoa went to the Moamoa Theological Cemetery to bless the newly installed tombstones of some deceased confreres and honour their lives and the legacy they left behind in serving God, the Church and the youth.
Rango, Rwanda – December 2024 - On 7 December, the work of the Second National Eucharistic Congress took place in the parish of St John Bosco in Rango. Delegations of priests and Christians from different dioceses in Rwanda gathered in Rango. The solemn Mass was presided over by Bishop Jean Bosco Ntagungira, Bishop of Butare, and concelebrated by eight bishops and a hundred priests. The central moment of the event was the long procession with the Blessed Sacrament.
