Tlaquepaque, Mexico - November 2024 - The assembly of the Salesian Youth Movement (MGS) of the Salesian Province of Mexico-Guadalajara (MEG) was held from 15 to 17 November, in the Salesian work in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. The meeting was attended by over 300 people, including Salesians of Don Bosco, lay collaborators, young people, coordinators and animators of the movement's various associations. During the days, the participants from the 25 Salesian presences of the MEG Province were able to pray, reflect and experience together conferences, workshops, dynamics and liturgical moments inspired by the theme of the Strenna 2025 of the Vicar of the Rector Major. The meeting was organised and carried out by the Nucleus Animator of MGS-MEG, with the accompaniment of Fr David Reynoso, Provincial Councillor of the SYM and Vocations Animator in MEG Province; Fr Agapito Francisco Espinoza, Delegate for MEG Youth Ministry; and the Salesian Communities at the Theologate and the Salesian Brother Regional Centre (CRESCO America). The contribution of educators and members of the Salesian Family provided relevant vocational training for young people. This Provincial Assembly also promoted the celebrations for the next Jubilee and the 30th anniversary of the MGS-MEG, which will take place in 2025.
Goiânia, Brazil - November 2024 - From 14 to 17 November, Goiânia welcomed young people, animators, catechists, spiritual directors and leaders of the missionary groups in the St John Bosco Province of Belo Horizonte Btazil (BBH) for the Salesian Missionary Forum, an event that opened the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the first missionary expedition, scheduled for 2025. The Forum aimed to promote the exploration of topics central to the Salesian mission, as well as being the stage for the official launch of the Salesian Missionary Childhood (IMS) project at the provincial level. The programme began on the 14th with a Mass in the São João Bosco parish, presided over by Fr Natale Vitale Forti, BBH Provincial. The 15th was marked by many performances and lectures on various topics. In the evening, the participants gathered at the Salesian Sagrado Coração de Jesus Parish for the Missionary Rosary, animated by Niterói, and the end of the day was marked by the official launch of the IMS project, which aims to involve children in the Salesian mission from an early age. On the 16th, in addition to the conference on spiritual accompaniment, there was a very important and eagerly awaited moment, the conference in which the Salesian Missionary Childhood was discussed in detail. In the afternoon, the participants took a trip to the Santuário Divino Pai Eterno, in Trindade, where they participated in a mass.
Valparaíso, Chile - November 2024 - Those in charge of Salesian works in the country met on 14 and 15 November in Valparaíso to take part in an animation and formation meeting and the celebration of 130 years of the Salesian school. The meeting was an opportunity for personal and spiritual formation, where reflection and common work made it possible to face the challenges of Salesian education in the present context with a shared vision. The opening day began with the Eucharist presided over by the Rector of the Salesian School in Valparaíso, Fr Juan Pablo Moreno Rojas. Then there were group dynamics centred on the personal and spiritual formation of the participants, in which each Rector shared his experiences and aspirations from a Salesian perspective. These moments of encounter deepen bonds and allow a renewal of the pastoral mission, encouraging the Rectors to nourish themselves with Salesian spirituality and to work as a team. The Probvincial of the Salesians in Chile, Fr Nelson Moreno, highlighted the value of the meeting as an essential space for strengthening the Salesian community. The event also included a reflection on the results of the youth survey carried out this year and on the importance of adapting the educational proposal of youth ministry to the current needs of young people and their families.
Lisbon, Portugal - November 2024 - The Juventude Atlântico Clube - football section received the ‘Quinas de Ouro 2024’ Award for its many years of work in football training. The prize, which was awarded to some of the best players, clubs and coaches, including the captain of the Portuguese football team, Cristiano Ronaldo, was presented by the Portuguese Football Federation. The Juventude Atlântico Clube - Football Department of the Salesians in Funchal received the award for their work in training athletes. The award ceremony took place on 11 November at the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, and included a video tribute to the various award-winning clubs, from the north to the south of mainland Portugal and the archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira. The ceremony was broadcast on RTP1, the public television channel. “The Juventude Atlântico Clube has been a 3 Star Training Entity for five consecutive years and, as such, received this award as part of the ‘Quinas de Ouro’, for its remarkable contribution to the development and promotion of football training,” explained the JAC management. The club received the trophy and corresponding certificate sent by the Portuguese Football Association. The certification as a training body is the result of the evaluation of the quality of the facilities (pitch, swimming pool, auditorium, among others), training methods, coaches, organisation, encouragement of fair play and the training of parents and athletes.
