Haiti - Feast of Don Bosco in La Saline
La Saline, Haiti - January 2020 - On January 31, the Salesians of La Saline celebrated their founder St John Bosco with a solemn Eucharistic celebration accompanied by songs and dances. Fr Zucchi Ange-Olibrice, Coordinator of the work of “Father Bohnen's Small Schools” (OPEPB), presided over the Eucharist in the presence of thousands of children from all the other small schools. The Salesians have been present in Haiti since 1936 and they work for the education of poor and marginalized children and young people. La Saline is a densely populated slum north of Port-au-Prince where the Salesians erected their first presence. Today it is a terrain of clashes between armed gangs and the Salesian house is located right in its center; everyone lives in a climate of fear, even if normal activities have resumed at the beginning of the year in apparent calm.
