Chile – St. Dominic Savio School in Alto Hospicio Promotes Inclusive Education
Alto Hospicio, Chile – April 2025 – On April 4th, during Sports Week, St. Dominic Savio School in Alto Hospicio held an inclusive event organized by the School Integration Program (PIE) in collaboration with the Exercise and Sports Unit of Teletón Institute in Iquique.
The event highlighted adapted sports, particularly wheelchair basketball, to promote inclusion and equal opportunity for all athletes. Physical education teacher Eduardo Huaikin led the session with activities that showcased the skills and challenges faced by athletes with disabilities.
Martín Cortez, a young wheelchair basketball player, also participated and shared his personal journey as a high-level athlete, emphasizing how such initiatives help build a more inclusive society.
The partnership between the school and Teletón underscores their joint commitment to inclusive education, with diversity seen as a core value in student development. The school community responded with enthusiasm and deep appreciation for the experience.
