Papua New Guinea – Transformative Change: Training for Media Education Seminar Animators
Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – February 2025 – The 2025 Media Education Seminars kicked off with a training session for animators on February 22 at Cuthbertson House, Downtown Port Moresby. The session was led by Fr. Ambrose Pereira, SDB, Coordinator for Social Communications in the East Asia-Oceania Region and the PGS Vice-Province. This training session marked the beginning of a series of Media Education Seminars, scheduled to take place from March 1 until June. The theme, "Pilgrims of Hope: A Journey from Darkness to Light," combines the Jubilee Year theme with that of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby. The media animators from various Catholic schools in Port Moresby, who will serve as mentors for students and young participants, focused on their roles and expectations. Discussions highlighted how schools can use media to spread positive messages, the importance of critical media consumption, and the potential integration of media literacy into the curriculum. Fr. Pereira emphasized the responsible use of media, urging animators to guide young people in critically evaluating the content they consume and share online. The first Media Education Seminar is set to take place on March 1 at St. Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Gerehu, Port Moresby.
