Burundi – Roundtable at the "Cité des Jeunes" in Buterere
Bujumbura, Burundi – February 2025 – On Thursday, February 20, the Don Bosco Tech Africa Job Services Office held a roundtable discussion at the Cité des Jeunes center of the Don Bosco Buterere Salesian house in Bujumbura, part of the Africa Great Lakes Province (AGL). During the meeting, the principals of the two Salesian Vocational Training Centers (SVTs) in Burundi, along with other Salesians, a representative from the General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Training (Ministry of Education), the head of the technical training curriculum development department, and other stakeholders discussed the importance of having a Job Services Office (JSO) within a SVT —something that is not yet widely implemented in Burundi. The JSO representative from Don Bosco Tech Africa presented a JSO model currently used in Salesian SVTs in Burundi and other countries in the Africa-Madagascar Region, sparking great interest among attendees. Additionally, concerns were raised about the insufficient level of vocational and technical training in Burundi, as well as the high unemployment rate among young graduates, an issue causing significant concern across the country.
