India - ‘You are my hope, Lord’: the Mumbai altar boys' rally
Mumbai, India - February 2025 - Don Bosco Youth Services Mumbai has organised a gathering of altar boys 2025 on 2 February, attended by 150 young people from the parishes around Mumbai. The event, held at the Don Bosco High School in Matunga, had ‘You are my hope, Lord’ as its theme, referring to the theme of the Jubilee Year. After the registration of participants and the inspirational speech given by Fr Edwin D'Souza, Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Don Bosco, the young people attended a session on ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ led by Mrs Joynel Fernandes, from the Archdiocesan Heritage Museum. Mrs Fernandes then took the participants on a virtual journey through the lives of young saints from Italy, France, Portugal and Poland, concluding with a brief history of the Shrine of Our Lady of Don Bosco, built by Fr Aurelio Maschio. The altar boys then performed dances, songs and shows that beautifully expressed the theme of faith and hope. Fun games were then played and, finally, the young people participated in the Mass celebrated by Fr Savio Silveira, INB Provincial. The latter emphasised the three key qualities of an altar boy: to serve with enthusiasm, to set a good example and to act with joy. He also recalled that being an altar boy is a gift from God and a privileged vocation. The event was therefore a spiritually enriching experience, which strengthened the altar boys' commitment and deepened their faith.
