India - Sutnga's first Salesian, Santreki Muliar, ordained priest
Shillong, India - January 2024 - Salesian deacon Santreki Muliar was ordained a priest on 26 January, at the parish of Sutnga in the Diocese of Jowai, becoming the first Salesian priest in Sutnga. The ceremony, which was joyfully attended by friends and relatives of the newly ordained priest, was presided over by Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar, Bishop of Jowai. Also present for the occasion were Fr Jeevan Lakra, Vice-Provincial of Shillong, India, numerous priests, sisters, religious, young people and faithful. The Eucharist was also concelebrated by more than 65 priests, underlining the importance of the occasion. Finally, the ceremony, held on the Sunday of the Word of God, provided an opportunity for Bishop Dkhar to address all the Salesians present, urging them to fulfil their sacred duty of proclaiming the Word of God and not to be discouraged in the face of the difficulties and challenges of their priestly ministry.
