India - Workshop on ‘Schema Therapy’ organised by the Salesian Psychological Association
Bangalore, India - January 2025 - As a part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the Salesian Psychological Association (SPA) of South Asia organised a three-day international workshop on ‘Schema Therapy’ from 14 to 16 January at the Bangalore Provincial headquarters (INK). Fr Jose Thomas Koyickal SDB, Superior of the INK Province, opened the workshop in the presence of Jan Kossack, Fr Shalbin Kalanchery, SDB, Vice-Provincial, and Fr Joy Nedumparambil, SDB, Provincial Bursar. Jan Kossack, ‘Schema Therapist’ with advanced certification from the Schema Therapy Institutes in New York and New Jersey, conducted the event. Highlights of the workshop included the theory and conceptual framework of ‘Schema Therapy’, the five basic emotional needs of human beings, basic concepts of therapy, understanding the 18 schemas, techniques and understanding the different modalities of ‘Schema Therapy’. In addition to the theoretical sessions, there were video demonstrations and supervised practical sessions. The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates by Jan Kossack. The workshop participants gained an understanding of the basics of ‘Schema Therapy’. Members of the Salesian Psychological Association (SPA), the Conference of Catholic Psychologists of India (CCPI) and psychologists from various parts of the country attended the workshop. Dr. Fr C.M. Joseph Cherukunnel SDB (President, SPA), Fr Ajay D'Monte SDB (Secretary, SPA), Dr. Fr Binu Scaria SDB (Treasurer, SPA) and Fr N K George Nedumkallel SDB (SPA member) coordinated the Workshop.
