Vadodara, India – November 2024 – In order to learn more about the challenges of migration, the Diocese of Baroda organised a consultation on migration at the Don Bosco Church Hall in Makarpura, Vadodara, on 19 November. The event brought together priests, religious, representatives of NGOs, members of trade unions and numerous participants interested in strengthening collaboration and defending the rights of Gujarat's migrant communities. Those present were welcomed with a welcome speech by Fr Baptist Monteiro, Rector of Don Bosco Snehalaya. Fr Francis Bosco, South Asia Coordinator for Migrant Ministry, then spoke, shedding light on the critical issues and challenges faced by migrants, in particular irregular workers. The participants then took part in group discussions which focused on feasible strategies to support migrants. At the end of the consultation, a committee was established that will undertake to put into practice all the suggestions expressed during the meeting. As a sign of gratitude, saplings were donated to symbolise the growth and hope that this initiative aims to inspire.
