Colombia - Mary Help of Christians: a celebration that continues to nourish the Salesian charism

31 May 2024

Bogotá, Colombia – May 2024 – On May 23, trumpets, drums, saxophone and other symphonic instruments marked the rhythm of the celebration of Vespers of Mary Help of Christians, a moment of rich music, prayer, theatre and artistic performances concluded with the prayer of thanksgiving from Fr José Arcadio Riaño for the graces received in the San Pedro Claver Province of Bogotá (COB). The real celebration, however, began with the procession that marked the beginning of 24 May. The key figure, of course, was Mary Help of Christians, leading a procession comprising the band and followed by the different members of the congregation. It was a journey full of joy, celebration, faith and love around the Virgin, who was not only Don Bosco's first teacher, but also knew how to guide the Salesian community in its charismatic mission. "Let us embrace our Holy Mother so that she continues to guide us in the mission of Don Bosco with young people and especially with the most needy", said the Salesians of Bogotá.
