Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo - November 2023 - The Extraordinary Visitation of the Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, Fr Alphonse Owoudou to the Salesian Province of Central Africa (AFC) continues. From 14 to 17 November Fr Owoudou visited the Salesian Community in Bakanja-Magone, meeting all the members of the community and visiting the work areas. He presided over the celebration of the Eucharist, met each Salesian personally, addressed the traditional Salesian "good morning" and "good night" messages to the young people, met the aspirants and members of the Educative and Pastoral Community, and visited the different sectors of the work, showing a paternal, fraternal, accompanying and educative presence. On 15 November, at the suggestion of the Salesian community itself, the Councillor made an overnight visit to the city of Lubumbashi, meeting young people living on the streets in various areas. He was thus able to see for himself the misery in which Congolese youth live and how delicate the work carried out by the Salesians in the community is. Fr Owoudou talked to the young people, bringing them words of encouragement and comfort. On the last day, the community organised a festive evening in honour of the Councillor.
