London, England – October 2023 – Sister Seli Thomas, a member of the Salesian Family from the Catechist Sisters of Mary Immaculate Help of Christians (SMI), was awarded the "SATA - Sisters Anti-Trafficking Awards", the award given to sisters engaged in the fight against human trafficking. Sister Seli, from Krishnagar, West Bengal, received the award on 31 October during a ceremony held in London, along with two other sisters from Nigeria and Thailand respectively. The three Sisters rescued some women who ended up in a network of traffickers who allegedly exploited them for sexual and labour purposes. The commendation states that all three showed courage and cooperation in protecting these women from human trafficking.
