Bangalore, India - May 2023 - From May 7 to 11, the formation program for catechists of the Salesian Family of the South Asian Provinces promoted by the South Asian Salesian Provinces Conference (SPCSA, in English) was held at the "Don Bosco" Provincial House in India-Bangalore (INK). Twenty participants were from various groups of the Salesian Family of India - Salesians (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (SMA), Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC), Salesian Cooperators (SSCC) and Volunteers of Don Bosco (VDB) - as well as catechists active in Salesian parishes. The formation program in Bangalore, coordinated by Fr. Gilbert Choondal, SDB, was the second of the Salesian Family Commission. Sister Christine, MSMHC, principal coordinator, had run one for the northern provinces in Shillong in April 2023. Topics covered during the program included Christian parenting and family catechesis prompts, group dynamics, social media skills, catechesis on ecology, the "YouCat" manual and the Gospel, lesson plan preparation, and prayer methods. "All the topics were challenging, innovative, instructive, and interesting," said John Victor, Salesian Cooperator from Chennai Province. It was a theoretical-practical program. "As we move forward, we are confident to implement in our Provinces and environments all that we have absorbed," expressed Sister Siji, MSMHC, presenting the participants' impressions. On the last day, Sister Padmini, FMA, read the five-point action plan to implement skills in their environments. Fr. Jose Thomas Koyickal, Superior of the Bangalore Province and Coordinator of the Salesian Family Commission at SPCSA, thanked the participants and the main organizer of the program, Fr. Gilbert Choondal.
