Argentina - Mass for Argentine-Chilean brotherhood at the foot of "Cristo del Tromen"
Argentina - March 2023 - On Sunday, March 5, at the foot of "Cristo del Tromen," at the border crossing of Mamuil Malal de Curarrehue - which connects Neuquén, Argentina, with the Chilean region of Araucanía - and with the Lanín volcano in the background, a Mass was celebrated between Argentines and Chileans, an event that has been repeated fraternally since 1950. Every year this celebration is prepared by the parishes of Curarrehue, Chile, and Junín de los Andes, Argentina, and, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, it was organized again. In Junín de los Andes, at the Salesian parish of "Nuestra Señora de las Nieves and Laura Vicuña," preparations were made for the celebration, together between Argentines and Chileans. The Mass was presided by Bishop Francisco Javier Stegmeier, Bishop of Villarrica (Chile), and concelebrated by Bishop Fernando Croxatto, Bishop of Neuquén. The Mass was also attended by the parish priest of Junín de los Andes, Fr. Carlos Gómez, SDB, and the parish priest of Curarrehue, Fr. Janusz Furtak, as well as seminarians from both countries, consecrated persons, lay people, and pastoral workers. Pope Benedict XVI and Msgr. Sixto Parzinger, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Villarica who recently passed away, were remembered during the celebration. In his message, Msgr. Croxatto mentioned the fraternity that transcends borders, highlighting the brotherhood that unites Argentines and Chileans.
