Santiago, Chile - February 2023 - On the morning of February 28, the Councilor for the America Southern Cone Region, Fr. Gabriel Romero, began the Extraordinary Visit to the Salesian Province of Chile (CIL) with a meeting with the Provincial Council. In this meeting, Fr. Romero met with Fr. Carlo Lira, CIL Provincial, his Vicar, Fr. David Albornoz, Fr. Juan Miguel Cárcamo, Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry, Fr. José Toledo, Provincial Economer, Fr. Félix Levin, Provincial Delegate for Formation, and Fr. Galvarino Josfré, Rector of the Silva Henríquez Catholic University. "I listened to the evaluation of each councilor, the actions carried out since the last visit carried out in 2018, and we had an extremely profound talk about the current state of the Province," said Fr. Romero. Fr. Lira said, "The meeting was very fruitful. We shared with the Regional Councilor our vision of the journey of the Province, in what we have progressed, the difficulties and challenges." In his mission as Regional Councilor, Fr. Romero accompanies the journey of the six Provinces of Brazil, the two of Argentina, and those of Uruguay, Paraguay, and Chile. As he explained, his task is to be a link between the Region, the General Council, and the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime. From the end of February to May 20, Fr. Romero shall meet with Salesians, lay people co-responsible for the mission, local communities, and bodies of animation and service of the CIL Province with the following objectives: to make known the document and spirit of the 28th General Chapter; to intensify the communion of each community with the Salesian Congregation and the Church; to motivate the growth of Salesian identity; and to verify the orientation of Salesian action toward the fulfillment of the mission.
