Italy - Rector Major’s Vicar celebrates Mass in Basilica of St. Giovanni Bosco ai Becchi
Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Italy - January 2023 - On the Feast of St. John Bosco, Fr. Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, celebrated the Eucharist in the Basilica of St. John Bosco ai Becchi at 5 p.m. local time. Although it was the fourth Mass of the day, the Basilica was packed with the faithful. Therefore, thinking of the many people from all over the world who would have liked to be there on Don Bosco's feast day, Fr. Martoglio said in his homily that the faithful present were "truly blessed." Then, commenting on the day's readings, he noted that St. Paul in the first reading invites the Philippians to rejoice and not to be anxious about anything, and he thus urged everyone to bring in prayer all their worries to the Lord, so that they may have peace. Then, with reference to the Gospel and the Lord's invitation to be like children, he reminded us to welcome the little ones and respect them, having for them and their souls the utmost care. "Da mihi animas caetera tolle," he recalled, finally, was always Don Bosco's motto, because what ultimately mattered to him was saving the souls of the young.
