India – Provincial Chapter 2022 kickstarts at Nitika Don Bosco

Kolkata, India – October 2022 - Salesian Province of St. John Bosco, Kolkata, inaugurated its Provincial Chapter 2022, themed “the profile of the Salesian for the Youth of Today,” here at Nitika Don Bosco on October 02, 2022. Most Rev. Thomas D’Souza, the Archbishop of Kolkata, presided over the Holy Eucharist along with 72 chapter members. Before the provincial chapter, the members were spiritually animated for half a day by Fr. James Mathew SDB. At the inaugural mass, Archbishop Thomas D,souza welcomed the Salesians to the Archdiocese of Kolkata and invited the chapter members to grow in faith and love based on the gospel readings, “Lord Increase our faith.”

Fr. Tomy Augustine, the moderator welcomed everyone and initiated the Provincial Chapter 2022 by reading the Convocation letter of the vicar of Rector Major. Father Provincial by reading Article 170 of the Salesian constitution set the tone for the provincial chapter. In his inaugural address Archbishop again called on the chapter members to refocus themselves to the young people, to listen and accompany them, by becoming a holy mentor and a holy guide. Basing on Christus vivit 246, he presented to the chapter members, who is a Salesian expected to be, the educator to the young.

Fr. Sunil Kerketta, the Vice-Provincial, Presented the messages written by Fr. Biju Micheal, the Regional Councillor for South Asia and Fr. Jose Kuruvachira, the Provincial of Dimapur Province.

Father Provincial thanks Archbishop Thomas for his words of welcome and encouragement to the chapter members before handing a token of appreciation.
After the roll call, reading out of various rules and regulations and appointment of various roles, Fr. Tomy Augustine, declares the Provincial Chapter open.
