Greece - General Councilor for Missions visits dioceses of Syros, Santorini, Crete
Greece – September 2022 - On August 28-31 and again on Sept 8-12, 2022 Fr. Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for Missions, visited the three dioceses of Syros, Santorini and Crete, joined ‘in persona episcopi’. Bishop Petrous Stefanou is inviting the Salesians to take charge of the diocesan youth ministry as well as ministry among tourists who frequent the islands from March to October. He is also offering to entrust the Salesians a parish as the eventual residence of the Salesian community which offers possibility to start an oratory and organize youth activities. There are also Albanian migrants and others and their children who need pastoral care. The exploratory visit enabled Fr. Maravilla to discuss with the bishop, religious and priests working there and have a direct experience of the context in order to better evaluate the invitation in view of reporting to the Rector Major and his Council.
