Spain - April 18, 2022 - During this Easter week, Spain’s two Salesian Provinces are celebrating their respective Provincial Chapters: the "St James the Greater" Province (SSM), in Salamanca, with 117 Salesian capitulars and 10 lay people invited; the "Mary Help of Christians" Province (SMX), in Málaga, where 130 Salesian capitulars and 18 lay people participate. The Chapter taking place this year in both Provinces intends to deepen the programmatic guidelines the Rector Major proposed to the whole Congregation at the end of the 28th General Chapter of the Salesians. The Provincial Chapters must analyze these guidelines and discern, case by case, how to implement them in their own reality. Among the topics discussed: how to grow in the Salesian identity, attention to the mission among the young people most in need, the formation of Salesians, and the involvement of the laity in the Salesian mission. The choices and options that emerge from these reflections will be used to draw up the Provincial Organic Project (POI), which is the document that guides the life and mission of the Provinces during the six-year term. In addition, the Provincial Chapter studies and updates the Provincial Directory that regulates the functioning of the life of the province, and records the progress of the province through the report presented by the Provincial.
