Suva, Fiji - January 2022 - On Sunday 30 January over 300 people gathered to celebrate the feast day of Don Bosco and for the official opening and blessing of the new "Don Bosco" Youth and Education Center. The ceremony was presided over by Fr William Matthews, Superior of the Salesian Province of Australia (AUL). During his homily, the Provincial emphasized that the "Don Bosco" Center is mainly dedicated to the ministry of Salesian pastoral care for young people and to the formation of Salesian students; while the parish church is still under construction, the center will continue to be used for Sunday Eucharist and parish activities. At the end of the Mass, Fr Matthews had words of thanks especially for Fr Mikaele Leilua, the first Salesian parish priest of the “St John Bosco” parish, who was superintendent of the construction of the youth center until his sudden death in September 2021.
