Dungalpitiya, Sri Lanka - May 2021 - The Sri Lankan government has declared Colombo, Jaffna, Kandy and Negombo as the areas most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The daily average in the country is about 2,500 new infections and about 300 deaths, all schools are closed and a lockdown has been imposed in most of the country. Marginalized families are sinking into debt and poverty. In this scenario, the “Don Bosco Development Center” of the Salesian Vice Province of Sri Lanka (LKC) is currently involved in relief measures, keeping a register of the needy and distributing basic necessities. In 2020, aid was distributed on a large scale and is currently continuing in some locations such as Negombo, Kotadeniyawa, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Pallavarayankadu and Dungalpitiya.
