Liberia - Three Salesian Centers powered by solar energy
Monrovia, Liberia - September 2020 - In order to solve the problem of the country's very expensive and rarely available electricity supply, the three Salesian Don Bosco Centers in Liberia have installed solar energy systems. The project was made possible thanks to the support of the Salesian NGO “Don Bosco Jugendhilfe Weltweit” in collaboration with various Swiss foundations, and to the “EKI Fundación” of Spain, which provided technical and logistical support. The entire Salesian structure of the Technical School, located on 8th street in Monrovia, and the school and youth center in New Matadi, are completely powered by solar energy, as is the Salesian mission in Tappita. The trainees of the electricians course of the "Don Bosco Technical High School" of Monrovia enjoyed first-hand practical experience, assisted the installation work in all three sites, and the Institute has started a training course for photovoltaic systems and their maintenance. The Salesian Centers hope to be a model to follow for clean energy.
