The Salesian Congregation shows a decrease in the number of newly professed: 102 less than in 1996.
However, there is a generational change and the head office database indicates that:
Salesians and novices under 35 are 3,355;
those over 75 are 2,751.

Another fact to underline is the internationality, with a clear change of geographical center of gravity.
In fact currently the novitiates with the greatest number of novices are:
Lubumbashi Chem-Chem (AFC): 25 novices
Ba Thon, Vietnam (VIE): 23 novices
Shillong Sunnyside (INS): 21 novices
