The Campora Farmstead

In February 1828, given the continuous quarrels between brothers, Mamma Margaret decided to send young John to look for work. The first place he went was Cascian "Campora"  a farmstead in Buttigliera, with the aim of playing the part of cowherd.

John realised, however, that he was not helpful, but just a burden on the place, despite the fact that some of Mamma Margaret's relatives lived there. And so he made up his mind to return home.

Some time later, however, he arrived at Cascina Moglia, where he was welcomed and began to work as a labourer.

John Bosco was only thirteen when he had to move to this farmhouse, about 10 kilometres from his home. There he lived, worked and devoted himself to study from February 1828 to November 1829.
