"Misiones Salesianas", the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid, took stock of ongoing wars around the world.
Since 2013, the Central African Republic has been embroiled in a civil war that has left more than 1.4 million people displaced;
In Syria, more than 13 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid;
South Sudan has never lived in peace;
In Yemen, more than 4.7 million children and women suffer from malnutrition.
More than 100 million people have fled their homes this year to save themselves from war, persecution or human rights violations. Nearly 47 million have fled to other countries and become refugees. Half of them are children.
Fleeing is the only way to survive. Many arrive in refugee camps such as Palabek in Uganda or Kakuma in Kenya. Here, in addition to providing refuge from conflict, Salesian missionaries distribute basic necessities, provide access to health and education, assist women with dependent children, and help anyone in need.
