Malta – January 2025 - South Sudanese asylum seeker Achuil Abdalla has found his calling in medicine after a personal tragedy. In 2005, in fact, his mother died in a hospital without essential resources, motivating him to make medical education his life's mission. Now 21, Achuil is a nursing student in Malta, and is doing his internship at the St James Hospital, with the dream of becoming a doctor. Achuil arrived in Malta at the age of 16 on board the NGO rescue ship “Sea Watch 3” after being recovered off the Libyan coast with 31 other people in December 2018. Despite the challenges of applying for asylum and adjusting to life in a new country, Achuil persevered, passing examinations and excelling in nursing studies. Achuil is still grateful to the Salesians for their support, which he says was fundamental. Upon arrival, they provided him with accommodation and assistance at the Osanna Pia Home, a Salesian centre in Malta that offers shelter and opportunities to vulnerable individuals. The house, currently the residence of the Superior of the MLT Vice-Province, reflects the Salesian commitment to promote resilience, education and assistance for those in need and on the margins of society. As Achuil continues to confront the uncertainties of his being an asylum seeker, his determination and the support he received pushed him closer to his ultimate goal of becoming a doctor and thus honoring his mother's memory.

Madrid, Spain – January 2025 - On Wednesday 8 January at 7 pm there was the premiere of "Sueños, el Musical" on YouTube, and it was immediately a great success: Toño Casado's show reached over 10,000 views in a few days. "Sueños, el musical" is a show produced by the Salesians of the St James the Greater Province (SSM) and created by Toño Casado. The musical manages to sing and tell the power of a dream had at the age of nine by a simple boy; a dream, however, that changed his life and that of thousands of people, especially children, teenagers and young people around the world. "Sueños, el musical" is a first-class artistic commitment aimed at bringing that programmatic dream closer to our time, helping to (re)discover it with a fresh and youthful language. The Salesians from the SSM Province hope that the musical will become a valuable tool to explore Don Bosco's vocational dream, and that, in this way, the educative and pastoral task of so many people who live and work at the service of hundreds of children and young people entrusted to them by God will be fostered. The musical can be viewed in its entirety or in the 20 episodes marked by each of the songs in the work. Teaching materials are also offered with the musical, supporting this educational task. In addition, the songs can be heard on Spotify.
