(ANS – Goma) – Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians, expressed his total closeness to the Salesian Family in the St Joseph's Delegation of Central East Africa (AFC-EST) and to the thousands of Christian faithful present in Goma on Friday 10 May 2024.
(ANS – Rome) – Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians, continues his visit to some of the most significant works of the Salesian presence in sub-Saharan Africa. After various stops in the St Charles Lwanga Vice-Province of Africa Great Lakes (AGL), he is preparing to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country where the Salesians have been present for 113 years.
(ANS - Goma) - In the early afternoon of Thursday, May 9, 2024, the Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived in Goma, accompanied by Fr Alphonse Owoudou, Regional Councillor for Africa-Madagascar.
(ANS – Palabek) - The Rector Major, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime celebrated the votive mass of Don Bosco for the confreres. In his homily, the Rector Major declared with profound conviction that the Salesian Mission was God’s gift. For this reason, he expressed his admiration and gratitude to the congregation, the provincial superior, and the AGL confreres for devoting their greater strength and commitment for this noble cause. He said that he could experience at firsthand the impact that our Salesian presence makes in the lives of those who need it most. The Rector Major also affirmed that the Palabek mission was the province's front-line mission, "it is a Salesian sin for a confrere to refuse the opportunity to reside and work here among these people of Palabek", he stated. He was confident that Don Bosco is very much pleased with the work that the Salesians are rendering to support the youth of Palabek. At the end, he prayed saying, “May Mary Help of Christians and Don Bosco bless this mission now and in the future”.
(ANS – Palabek) – On the third day of His Eminence's visit to Uganda - Palabek particularly, the Rector Major, His Eminence Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, stopped for a brief visit at the Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate from Gulu living in the camp (St Daniel Comboni), who work closely with the Salesian mission in Palabek, while en route to the Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre - Palabek (VTC), which is located nine kilometres from the Salesian community. He blessed the local community there.
(ANS – Kampala) – At Noon, East African Time, the Regional Africa Madagascar Superior, Fr Alphonse Owoudou, the Provincial of Africa Great Lakes, Fr Piérre Célèstin Ngoboka, Salesian confreres in Uganda, Salesian Cooperators, and a student delegation from Don Bosco Nursery and Primary School Namugongo received His Eminence, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime upon his arrival at Entebbe International airport.

Myanmar – Tragedy of Innocent Children in the midst of Armed Conflicts(ANS – Naypyidaw) - Myanmar finds itself immersed in profound grief and anguish as innocent lives, particularly those of children, continue to be mercilessly lost in the enduring armed conflicts. Families are left devastated by the tragic loss of their loved ones while the relentless violence shows no signs of abating. This week, a heartfelt plea from Myanmar reached our community, shedding light on the heart-wrenching death of a young girl Juliet in a military airstrike, prompting a unified call for prayers and action.

Italy – Artificial Intelligence and "The Oratory". Two events for reflection and debate at UPS(ANS – Rome) – The Faculty of Social Communication Sciences (FSC) of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS), based in Rome, is promoting two events in May, the month in which the World Day of Social Communications is celebrated (this year, Sunday 12th) as well as the anniversary of the charismatic Letter from Rome by Don Bosco (10 May). They will explore the dimension of communication in its current and future panorama and the continuing relevance of the Salesian presence among young people at risk. These issues will be addressed through the presentation of a book on "Artificial Intelligence. In search of humanity", Thursday 16 May 2024, and the screening of the film "The Oratory", Friday 17th.

RMG – 16 May 1887: Don Bosco's weeping, the Sacred Heart and unwavering faith in Divine Providence(ANS – Rome) – On 16 May 1887, Don Bosco celebrated his first and only Mass at the altar of Mary Help of Christians at the church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at the Castro Praetorium, in Rome, the church whose construction cost him so much effort and suffering in the last years of his life. In that Mass, interrupted by tears 15 times, Don Bosco, now close to the end of his mortal life, had the grace to understand the entire journey made in the thousand apostolates and in the infinite initiatives for young people throughout his life, and his childhood Dream suddenly became clear to him, thus also giving fulfilment to the prophetic affirmation of that dream: "In due time you will understand everything".
