The SKK is a new initiative to reach out to the large migrant population of the city – part of the estimated 40 lakhs plus migrants in Kerala. In initial conversations with various groups, the Salesian organization gathered that access to medical care, secure employment, assistance for redressal of grievances and language classes are their urgent needs.
Shramik Kalyan Kendr is part of a network of 7 other “Migrants’ Help Desks” recently launched by the Salesians of Don Bosco in Dimapur, Guwahati, Panjim, Tiruppur, Vijayawada and Chennai.
As a part of the international Don Bosco network, The Trivandrum Don Bosco Veedu Society is a Registered Charitable Society based in the State of Kerala, primarily operating in the District of Trivandrum to help youth and children at risk (street children and youth; child labourers; child beggars; unaccompanied and lost children; children in conflict with the law; abused children; abandoned children; runaways; and children from dysfunctional family environments). It was founded in 1991.
“It is easier to prepare a child then to repair an adult” is one of the mottos of the Salesians.
