RMG - Appointment of the first Superior of the ACC Vice-Province

(ANS - Rome) - During the winter plenary session of the General Council the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr Manuel Jiménez Castro, Superior of the New Vice-Province of Africa Congo Congo (ACC) for the six years 2017-2023.

Fr Jiménez Castro was born in Tarifa, Spain on 23 October 1959. He did his Novitiate in Cabezo de Torres in 1976-77, made his perpetual profession on 21 August 1983 in Seville and was ordained priest on 17 May 1986.

After several years of pastoral work in Sanlúcar La Mayor, Seville, he was appointed Master of Novices. In 1996 he was sent to Kara in northern Togo to assume the position of Director, while the new African Province of Our Lady of Peace in French-speaking West Africa (AFO) was being erected.

In 2004 he was appointed Superior of the AFO Province and subsequently he was appointed Superior of the Province of Our Lady of Africa in ​​Equatorial Tropical Africa (ATE).

At present he is Rector of the Generalate of the Salesians.

He will take on his new role as Superior of ACC in September 2017.
