Akash was born and raised in a respectable Christian family that loved and supported him throughout every stage of his life. His parents, siblings, and relatives played a vital role in shaping his character and fostering sincere relationships. His discipleship in Jesus was deeply rooted in strong convictions, courageous testimony, and a daily commitment to serving others.
The profound experience of Salesian spirituality, derived from Don Bosco’s Preventive System, had a significant and personal impact on Akash’s human and spiritual formation. It led him to develop a deep understanding of and friendship with Christ. The pillars of reason, religion, and loving-kindness played a crucial role in strengthening his faith and shaping his path.
"Akash Bashir," says Fr. Pierluigi Cameroni, Postulator General, "is a sign and a seed of hope for the youth of our time, who often see their dreams crumble. His testimony serves as an inspiration, encouraging them to overcome temptations of surrender, sadness, and discouragement."
In light of the Jubilee of Hope, his witness shines even more brightly, as Pope Francis reminds us in the Bull of Indiction of the Holy Year:
"The most compelling testimony of this hope comes from the martyrs, who, steadfast in their faith in the Risen Christ, have been willing to give up their earthly lives rather than betray their Lord. They exist in every era, and perhaps today more than ever, they stand as witnesses to a life that knows no end. We must cherish their testimony to make our hope fruitful."
It is also noteworthy that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Salesian presence in Pakistan. The Don Bosco Technical Centre in Lahore has played a key role in the education and technical training of young people, having graduated over 8,000 students. Additionally, the Don Bosco Learning Center in Quetta continues to provide educational opportunities.
Young people who have passed through Salesian institutions in Pakistan are now leading dignified lives in society and spreading Don Bosco’s legacy throughout the country.
