Lahore, Pakistan - January 2025 - On 31 January, on the solemnity of St John Bosco, the Salesians of Pakistan, the members of the Salesian Family (Salesian Cooperators, Past Pupils and ADMA) together with the local clergy celebrated 25 years of Salesian presence in the country. The solemnity of the Saint of Youth and the 25th anniversary of the Salesian mission were enhanced by the presence of the Apostolic Nuncio in Pakistan, Archbishop Germano Penemote, Cardinal Emeritus Joseph Coutts, Archbishop Joseph Arshad, Bishop of Islamabad and Rawalpindi Diocese, Fr Joseph Nguyen Thinh Phuoc, SDB, Councillor for the East Asia-Oceania Region, Salesian Brother Dominic Duc Nam Nguyen, World Delegate of Salesian Cooperators and Past Pupils, various Italian guests and musicians. On the same day, the Salesians also published a book on the Servant of God Akash Bashir; several people expressed their opinions with great esteem and respect for Don Bosco's work in Pakistan. In the 25 years of its existence, the Salesian pioneers and those who have followed them have established two presences in Lahore and Quetta with various services in agreement with the Salesian mission to serve hundreds of poor young people in two schools, oratories, boarding residences with educational and pastoral programmes. The four Salesians in the country continually face challenges to continue what was established by the first group of missionaries ad gentes. The 25th anniversary of the Salesian presence is indeed a milestone for all members of the Salesian Family who hope, with God's help, to continue to offer more and more services to the country's poor youth.
