Kenya - Opening of the Holy Door of Hope at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Nairobi

28 January 2025

Nairobi, Kenya - January 2025 - A solemn celebration took place at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Nairobi on 26 January. The event, which anticipated the feast of Don Bosco, coincided with the parish Family Day which was meticulously organised by the young people of the parish. The Archbishop of Nairobi, Philip Anyolo, presided over the Mass, impressed by the enthusiasm and joy shown by the young people of the parish, and declared the Shrine a centre of pilgrimage for young people during this jubilee year. The Eucharistic celebration featured the singing of the litanies of the patron saints of the Small Christian Communities. At the end of the Mass, Archbishop Anyolo opened the Holy Door of Hope, the main entrance to the Shrine. This was followed by the blessing of the Jubilee Cross, after which the congregation was invited to pass through the Holy Door. Those who entered with the right disposition and fulfilled the prescribed conditions were granted a plenary indulgence and the same will be granted in the future. This special privilege granted to the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Nairobi extends its blessings to the Salesian Province of East Africa (AFE) and the entire nation of Kenya. The presence of Don Bosco's relic inside the Shrine further enhances its spiritual significance. The celebration attracted over 4,000 people, united in faith.
