Porto Alegre, Brazil – January 2025 - Young people and adults of the Salesian presences of the Saint Pius X Province of Porto Alegre (BPA), spent a week in January in missionary projects in the south of the country, promoting the experience of faith and commitment to mission. The opening Masses, celebrated on 12 January at each mission site, marked the official start of the activities, which include home visits, festive oratories, moments of prayer and evangelisation activities in the communities. The initiatives concern projects in Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay. The more than 150 missionaries are part of the Youth Missionary Project (PMJ), the Adult Missionary Project (PMA) and the Missionary Expedition in Rivera, Uruguay. In 2025, the community of Itajaí will also host the project of the Inter-Institutional Group of Missionary Animation (GIAM), with young people from different provinces of Brazil. According to the Provincial Delegate for Salesian Youth Ministry, Fr Sérgio Ramos de Souza, the main objective of missionary projects is to provide participants with a deep experience of God. "On the basis of this missionary experience, the encounter with other people and a strong ecclesial and community experience, the missionary returns to his community enthusiastic and willing to continue to actively participate in the local evangelizing action," he said.
