RMG – Appointment of the New Provincial of Belgium North (BEN)

(ANS – Rome) – In the context of the works of the winter plenary session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr. Wilfried Wambeke SDB, aged 61, as the new Superior of the Province “St. John Berchmans” of Belgium North (BEN).

Fr. Wambeke was born on May 25th, 1955, in Tielt, in Belgium, and did his novitiate in Heverlee in 1973. He did his perpetual profession on November 25th, 1979, in Oud-Heverlee, where he was also ordained a priest on April 24th, 1982.

He did his pastoral activities in several Salesian houses in Belgium; between 2009 and 2010 he was in Rome at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS); from 2010 to 2015 he was Rector of the Salesian House in Hectel, while at present he is Rector of the Centre of Heverlee.

Fr. Wambeke, who speaks Flemish, French, English and Italian, in the Province was Delegate for Youth Ministry (2003-2010), for Vocation Promotion (2003-2009) and Provincial Councillor.
